Russian bath and SPA treatment at Arasan baths (Almaty, Kazakhstan)

The Arasan baths were built in 1970s with consideration of oriental bath traditions. The interior is of marble. The Arasan Baths is known as the best bath house in all of Central Asia. There are separate sections for men and women. I spent 1000 tange ($3) to spend 1 hr in the pool, the Russian bath room, the Turkish bathroom and the Finnish bathroom in steam and dry saunas. I bought a bundle birch branches (500 tange) and a kind old Russian demo to me how to soak them in a hot water bucket them beat myself with the bundle in the wet sauna. The most fun part was cooling down with a bucket of cold water after overheated with sauna.

The bundles of leafy oak or birch branches called "venik" are used to swat and massage a person's body while they steam. This can look fairly violent, but to improve blood circulation, intensifies skins capillary activities and metabolism, exfoliate and soften skin. When the venik was fluttered and pressed into my back it sting, and feel a bit painful, but should feel oddly good as well.

I also pampered myself with a $45 USD 2-hr Detox SPA procedure  which made me look and feel healthier and better. I drank a cup of herb tea contained 47 ingredients, soaked in salt water for 30 min, massaged/scrubbed with salt and mineral ingredients for 20 mins, wrapped in plastic as is like a Philippine fish with a mineral mask for 20 min, washed away all applied ingredients, and felt like a new person. Mineral bath with salt «Mayne Baz» (with powder of 8 semiprecious stones) brought out acids of an organism and provided skin tissue with mineral substances. Mineral scrub with salt «Mayne Baz» exfoliated dead skin cells, contributed to draining-out slag and toxins, regenerated and revitalized skin by invasion deep inside the skin tissues. An wrapping allowed to strengthen and consolidate useful effect.
